Elections 2010 

 



On May 22, 2010 the elections for the Stakeholders' Committee (SC) and Governing Council (GC) civil society members under the Millennium Challenge Account Armenia Program were held. The elections 2010 were the fifth and the last one in its kind to be organized with the Program.
282 representatives from different organizations were registered by the election committee to participate at the elections as voters and 19 of them were registered as candidates. 239 representatives from different organizations participated at the close secret voting, in result of which the following 15 candidates were selected as SC members: the first five members with the highest votes will also serve as GC members:

The Election Committee received 288 applications for the elections of the MCA-Armenia Program Stakeholders' Committee and Governing Council members and approved 283 applications (the application of "Young farmers of Haghtanak community" was approved with the condition that the missing document will be provided by May 21, 2010 ). 19 applicants were registered as candidates.

Notification


The elections will be carried out on May 22, 2010 by closed secret voting from 9:00 -18:00 in the lobby of the Government Sessions Hall: Melik-Adamyan str. 1:

The Election Committee will finalize the results of the elections on the same day, May 22, from 18:00 until 21:00.
The candidates may place their signatures on the opposite side of the ballots on the day preceding the elections from 14:00-16:00, at their discretion.
Any physical or legal person can act as an observer on elections without preliminary authorization and without interfering into election Procedure.

ON THE ELECTIONS OF THE MCA-ARMENIA STAKEHOLDERS' COMMITTEE AND GOVERNING COUNCIL CIVIL SOCIETY MEMBERS' ELECTIONS


Civil society representatives are invited to participate at the elections of MCA-Armenia Program Stakeholders' Committee (SC) and Governing Council (GC) delegated civil society representatives.

The 15 members of the SC are called to insure public participation and transparent implementation of the Program in Armenia, as defined in the Millennium Challenge Compact between the Millennium Challenge Corporation and the Government of Armenia. GC members delegated from civil society are five, who participate at the decision-making process of the Program on behalf of the civil society. The SC/GC membership is on voluntary basis.

According to the SC/GC members' election procedure

- All those non-governmental organizations, unions, non-governmental foundations, Water User Associations and not-for-profit farmer cooperatives that are operating in Armenia and are registered with the RA Ministry of Justice before March 1, 2010, shall have the right to participate in the elections. The branches and representations of organizations cannot participate independently, regardless their state registration.
- Interested organizations can participate at the elections in the capacity of an elector and/or a SC/GC member candidate.
- The organizations are participating at the elections through one authorized representative. Participation of a person other than the authorized representative is not allowed.
- The overall process of Elections is coordinated by the Election Committee (with administrative support from MCA-Armenia SNCO staff) selected among the self-nominated civil society representatives.

All the organizations willing to participate at the Elections should fill in the application form and submit to the MCA-Armenia office (Melik-Adamyan str. 2/1, Yerevan) or send to elections@mca.am electronic address not later than May 12, 2010, 6 p.m.
