Trip to Vayots Dzor and Syunik marzes

On May 22-23 the MCA-Armenia team, with participation of CEO Ara Hovsepyan, SC members and representatives of the Implementing organizations, visited Vayots Dzor and Syunik marzes. The visit was aimed at the rural households' improvements under the Water-to-Market Project, as well as the pumping station Vorotan to be rehabilitated under the Program.

The first stop was in Arpi community of Vayots Dzor where training on On farm Water Management was being held. It is worth mentioning that the OFWM trainings have been held in more than 280 communities with participation of 22580 stakeholders.

In Yelpin community visits were made to demonstration sites established: in the first one the improvement on the effective ways of pruning was demonstrated (High value agriculture) and in the second site drip irrigation was installed in the green house with new equipment planning (OFWM).

Polyethylene green houses aroused much interest in Malshka community and a few were established under the Program, including the seed and vegetable seedling production center of Albert Kostanyan.

The meeting participants also met the Vayots Dzor Marzpet to discuss the current activities of the Program, its positive and negative effects and the possible improvements.

The MCA-Armenia team also visited the pumping station Vorotan in Khndzoresk community (Syunik). It is planned to implement reconstruction activities with the sum of 1.75 million dolors. The project will result in improved irrigation and will raise the quantity of the lands under irrigation. The pumping station is exploited by "Vorotan" Water Users' Organization.
