Structure

Arayik Hovhannisyan is a member of the MCA-Armenia Stakeholders' Committee since 2006 representing stakeholder communities.

In 1986 A. Hovhannisyan graduated from Yerevan Engineering Institute, Department of Cybernetics. At the same time he studied in the Department of Social Sciences and completed the Program with excellent credentials.

Mr. Hovsepyan worked in the research industrial complex "Ani", as well as Yerevan Municipality, was elected as a member of the Municipal Council of "Shengavit" Community for 4 times. Since 2001 he has been participating in the activities of the permanent commission on the local self governance under the President of the RA.

A. Hovhannisyan participated in the Projects implemented by a number of international organizations: USAID, GTZ, Urban Institute; etc. A. Hovhannisyan often speaks on local self-governing issues for the local administration and other interested parties, participates in international and local conferences and seminars as a facilitator.

In 2004 Mr. Hovhannisyan was granted with a gold medal after Garegin Njdeh for his big contribution in the field of local self governance; productive social activities; in 2006 received the title of Honorary Citizen for his active participation in the sociopolitical developments of the country.

Mission and Activities of the Association of the Municipal Councilors of Armenia

Association of the Municipal Councilors of Armenia (AMC) was established in 1998; the members of all the Municipal Councilors of Armenia and other regions of Armenia are members of the Association. During its activities a lot of efforts and work have been implemented to promote and develop local self governance system in Armenia; raise the role of councilors in the Armenian society.

The objectives of the Association of the Municipal Councilors are:

- Support the development and improvement of the local self governance system;
- Promote the development of democracy, civil society and rule of law;
- Raise the effectiveness and the role of the municipal councilors in the society.

To accomplish these objectives the AMC implements the following:

- Proposal development on the law and legal acts modifications on the local self-governing;
- Insuring proper cooperation/communication between the community councilors of Armenia;
- Initiating and organizing joint seminars/conferences to raise the awareness of the participants on the local self governance; etc
- Implementing publishing activities, particularly "Avagani +" periodic journal is being published to highlight all the events, legislation, projects on the local self-governence for all the interested parties.

Since 2004 AMC is a founding member of "United Cities and Local Government" World Organization.
