Since 1996 Seyran Martirosyan has been actively involved in building and developing the civil society in Armenia. He was elected by “Azatan” community center” NGO which is a rural community organization and a direct beneficiary of the program. However, S. Martirosyan’s main public activities are in the spher of human rights: he is the head of the Shirak regional branch of the Armenian Human Rights Protection Center after A.D. Sakharov.
Being a teacher by specialization for many years Seyran Martirosyan has worked as a teacher, then as the head of the school. Further expanding his knowledge and skills in civil society eduacation he has managed and coordinated a number of international projects directed to establishing and developing local public institutions, defending human rights, founding culture for civil society, etc. (among the current projects are “Defending human rights through NGO strengthening program” OSI – Armenia Foundation; “Resource centre for strengthening community organizations program” Eurasia Foundation). Through active participation in a number of international conferences and meetings, membership in many local and international committees and networks S. Martirosyan had his unique role in civil society institutions development in native Shirak marz.
