In May, 2006 Karen Nazaryan was elected as a MCA-Armenia Stakeholders' Committee member to represent civil society and beneficiary communities.
Karen Nazaryan is the Executive Director of the Armenia Inter-Church Charitable Round Table Foundation (ART) of the World Council of Churches. As an Executive Director, Mr. Nazaryan manages programmatic, administrative and financial activities of the office. The office of ART implements a number of community development, educational, HIV/AIDS prevention, as well as regional peace building projects.
Prior to joining ART in 1997, Mr. Nazaryan was serving as an Associate Professor of the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at the Medical School of Geneva University in Switzerland. From 1978-2004 he worked in the Laboratory of Organ Specific Proteins Institute of Molecular Biology of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences in the capacity of the Head of Research Group.
He holds Ph Degree in Biology (1978, 1993).
Mr. Nazaryan is a member of a number of Committees of the World Council of Churches. He is a member of Steering Committee of the ACT Development Global Alliance, commissioner of the "Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation".
Through the activities of the Armenia Inter- Church Charitable Round Table Foundation Mr. Nazaryan together with his team seeks to fulfill a set of objectives in the interest of the development of our country.
The main objectives of the ART are promoting Churches and partner NGOs to implement programs which are intended to empower vulnerable community-based groups in order they become sustainable and active agents of integrated development, as well as increasing the organizational, advocacy, and networking capacities of ART partners in contributing to the development of civil society, facilitating regional dialogue, mutual understanding, conflict resolution and peace-building, etc. The main directions of ART activities are:
1. Integrated Community Development
2. Regional Peace Building
3. Capacity Building, including HIV/AIDS Projects
The programs and projects of ART are implemented at different levels: national, regional and international.
